Writing fanfic turned out to be awesome fun and brought me in contact with an amazing group of fanfiction readers and writers. Those so inclined can still find my first stories at. When I was fourteen my best friend introduced me to anime and fanfiction-over the years I would complete over forty Sailor Moon fanfics under the penname Alicia Blade. One of my first spoken words was “story” (right along with “bath” and “cookie”), my favorite toy as an infant was a soft, squishable book, and I’ve wanted to be a writer since I first realized such a job existed. She lives near Tacoma, Washington, with her husband and twin daughters. In addition to writing, Marissa hosts The Happy Writer podcast. She holds a BA in Creative Writing from Pacific Lutheran University and a MA in Publishing from Pace University. Marissa Meyer is the #1 New York Times-bestselling author of The Lunar Chronicles, Heartless, The Renegades Trilogy, and Instant Karma, as well as the graphic novel duology Wires and Nerve. 5/29/2023 0 Comments Medieval bodies by jack hartnellIn literature and politics, hearts and heads became powerful metaphors that shaped governance and society in ways that are still visible today. In paintings and reliquaries that celebrated the sometimes bizarre martyrdoms of saints, the sacred dimension of the physical left its mark on their environment. In Medieval Bodies, art historian Jack Hartnell uncovers the complex and fascinating ways in which the people of the Middle Ages thought about, explored and experienced their physical selves. Dripping with blood and gold, fetishised and tortured, gateway to earthly delights and point of contact with the divine, forcibly divided and powerful even beyond death, there was no territory more contested than the body in the medieval world. 5/29/2023 0 Comments Lust for life irving stone reviewWhile the actor’s dedication saw him learn to paint under the supervision of a French artist, what really sells the performance is Douglas’ sensitivity and commitment to the extremes of the artist’s emotions. Minnelli is helped hugely in this respect by Kirk Douglas’ towering performance. Taking some nine years to reach the screen after it was first optioned by MGM, Minnelli’s adaptation of Irving Stone’s hugely popular “fictionalised biography” pulls off the nifty trick of being both an essay of a tragic life and a celebration of wayward genius. Although perhaps best known for his grandiloquent musicals such as An American In Paris, Gigi and The Band Wagon, the majority of Vincente Minnelli’s films were straight dramas and this exquisitely rendered biopic of Van Gogh’s life is amongst his finest. 5/29/2023 0 Comments A merciful death by kendra elliotMercy is a self-described prepper (a person who prepares for the collapse of civilization) and even owns a cabin loaded with supplies to live on after the end. But Mercy has recently moved back to her hometown, the rural Oregon community of Eagle’s Nest, after the tragic events of the first book, A Merciful Death-and that brings in her other world as well. The first, of course, is law enforcement. A Merciful Truth by Kendra Elliot-the second Mercy Kilpatrick mystery-has both these elements.įBI Agent Mercy Kilpatrick is-like many leads in a mystery series-a person of two worlds. My favorites are Spenser’s Boston, Longmire’s Wyoming, and Kinsey Millhone’s Santa Theresa. Read Corrina Lawson's review of A Merciful Truth by Kendra Elliot, and then make sure to sign in and comment for a chance to win a copy of the second Mercy Kilpatrick mystery!Ī good mystery series has two main ingredients: a compelling sleuth and a distinct sense of place. A Merciful Truth by Kendra Elliot is the second book in the Mercy Kilpatrick series, where the survivalist FBI agent must investigate a local antigovernment militia before more people get hurt. 5/29/2023 0 Comments The last of the mohicans novelThe abduction of the beautiful Munro sisters by hostile savages the treachery of the renegade brave Magua the ambush of innocent settlers and the thrilling events that lead to the final, tragic confrontation between rival war parties create an unforgettable, spine-tingling picture of life on the frontier.Īt the center of the novel is the infamous massacre of British troops and their families by Indian allies of the French at Fort William Henry in 1757. The Ethics of Ambiguity is the book that launched Simone de Beauvoir's feminist and existential philosophy. Ultimately, de Beauvoir argues that in order to achieve true freedom, one must battle against the choices and activities of those who suppress it. De Beauvoir outlines a series of "ways of being" (the adventurer, the passionate person, the lover, the artist, and the intellectual), each of which overcomes the former's deficiencies, and therefore can live up to the responsibilities of freedom. In this classic introduction to existentialist thought, French philosopher Simone de Beauvoir's The Ethics of Ambiguity simultaneously pays homage to and grapples with her French contemporaries, philosophers Jean-Paul Sartre and Maurice Merleau-Ponty, by arguing that the freedoms in existentialism carry with them certain ethical responsibilities. From the groundbreaking author of The Second Sex comes a radical argument for ethical responsibility and freedom. 5/28/2023 0 Comments The Indigo Spell by Richelle MeadAnd as she searches for an evil magic user targeting powerful young witches, she realizes that her only hope is to embrace her magical blood–or else she might be next. The author got back on track and finished up the story with style and a few plot twists. The subplots were interesting until I hit the middle of the story where there was too much information and too many characters that I feel were not necessary to the story. I enjoyed both Rohry and Lasssen and their struggle to over come the prejudices of the true blood and half blood. The world building was very well done and even went to a bit of an extreme with unnecessary cultural info dumps and extraneous characters that really played no part in the story other than to confuse the hell out of me. I suggest to anyone that is going to read this story that they read the glossary at the end of the book. I enjoyed the storyline immensely but the story itself lagged in the middle and was bogged down but redeemed itself toward the end. I'm torn between giving this story 3 or 4 stars. |
